A little fat goes a long way – don’t add extra fat when cooking. If you do use fat when cooking – choose oils such as sunflower, corn or olive oil.
Cook healthily – such as dry frying, grilling, roasting on a rack or stir frying.
Be sparing – don’t use too many oily marinades and salad dressings.
Skim it – skim fat from casseroles and stews before serving.
Drain it – drain and discard extra fat from the pan before making gravy or sauce.
Meat needs fat for flavour – almost invisible, marbled fat keeps the meat juicy after cooking. The essential nutrients in meat are found in the lean parts, cut off outer, visible fat before serving.
Don’t miss out the meat – combine it with vegetables and other low fat options.
